Rarely Used, Twitter Turns Off Fleets Feature – Gizmologi

Psocial media company Twitter decided to turn off the Fleets feature. This Instagram Stories-like feature will be turned off on August 3, because it is rarely used by users.

Removal Fleets impressed quite suddenly. If calculated since it was publicly announced, Fleets only lasted for eight months until next August.

“But since we introduced Fleets to everyone, we haven’t seen the increase in the number of new people joining Fleets as we expected,” Ilya Brown, Head of Product, Brand & Video Ads at Twitter Blog, Thursday (15/7/2021).

It’s a shame considering that this feature allows Twitter users to post full-screen photos, videos, reactions to tweets or plain text that disappears after 24 hours. A format created by Snap Inc and later imitated by other social media platforms such as Instagram Stories, Facebook and WhatsApp.

With this feature turned off users will no longer see the blue Fleets bubble at the top of the Twitter timeline. Even if Fleets is turned off, some of its capabilities will remain alive, one of which is the audio format, Space.

“Soon, we’ll be testing composer and camera updates to incorporate Fleet’s features — such as a full-screen camera, text formatting options, and GIF stickers,” Twitter said in a statement. The Verge.

Short-lived Twitter Fleets

Fleets were first introduced to the public in November of this year. This feature is a form of Twitter experimentation to find a way for new users to post regularly, not just through text tweets.

“We’ll be looking for more ways to address what’s holding people back from participating on Twitter,” the company added. “And for the people who are already tweeting, we’re focused on making this better for you.”

On the other hand, Twitter will also insert ads as a form of monetization. But its fate is still unclear, there is no further information about whether the ad will appear again in other parts of the application in the future.
